Accounts

When you sign up, Unburden stores account information such as your email address and profile.

Your household content

Unburden stores the planning content you create and organizes it by household: meals and recipes, pantry and grocery lists, expenses, budgets, shared costs and settlements, tasks, routines, reminders, home maintenance, hosting and events, date nights, travel plans, notes, and preferences. This content syncs to your account so it stays in step across your devices.

Households are shared

Unburden is built for shared households. Content in a household is visible to the members of that household. You can invite people to a household, remove members, or leave a household — and what you add to a shared household is seen by the people in it.

Photos and on-device scanning

With your permission, Unburden uses the camera and photo library so you can scan receipts, pantry items, and barcodes. The image analysis runs on your device using ML Kit; raw scan images and raw OCR output are not sent away for analysis.

If you choose to save a receipt photo with an expense, that photo is uploaded to Supabase storage and is available with the expense to members of your household. The expense or pantry details you review and save are also stored as household content and sync across devices.

For a barcode product lookup, Unburden sends the scanned UPC or EAN code to Open Food Facts. The request does not include your household content, but Open Food Facts receives a standard web request, including your IP address. Results may be cached on your device.

Notifications

If you enable reminders, Unburden registers a push notification token so it can deliver the notifications you turn on. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

Crash and diagnostic data

In released builds, Unburden uses Sentry to capture crashes, error diagnostics, and performance traces. Screenshots, view hierarchies, and default personal information are disabled. Before a report is sent, the app removes emails, money values, notes, receipt text, barcodes, and other household content. Reports may include a pseudonymous account identifier so repeated errors can be connected without sending your email.

How your data is used

Unburden uses this data to provide your account and sync, share content within your household, store receipt photos you choose to attach, deliver the reminders you enable, scan receipts and pantry items on your device, look up barcode product information, and diagnose crashes to improve reliability.

Sharing

Unburden does not sell your data. It relies on third-party infrastructure: Supabase for authentication, database, and saved receipt-photo storage; Sentry for scrubbed crash and diagnostic reporting; Expo's push service for notifications you enable; and Open Food Facts for barcode product lookups. Household content is shared only with members of your household.

Export and deletion

You can export your data and permanently delete your account from within the app (Profile). Deletion runs on the server and removes your account and associated records, including stored receipt photos, where permitted; some logs or backups may persist for a limited period. You can also revoke camera, photo, and notification permissions in your device settings.

Security

Unburden uses Supabase row-level security to isolate account and household data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we use reasonable measures to protect your data.

Children

Unburden is not intended for children under 13. If a parent or guardian believes a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will help.

International use

Your data may be processed in countries where Unburden's infrastructure providers operate, which may be outside your own country or region.
