MusicSense privacy.

Accounts are optional

MusicSense works without an account. Online accounts aren't open to the public yet; when you create one or sign in, MusicSense stores account identifiers such as your user ID, email address, username, display name, and profile preferences, including when you accepted the Terms.

What syncs when you are signed in

Songs, sections, lyrics, chords and song notes, chord progressions, bass lines, favorites, and practice log entries.

Practice Studio data: practice plans and schedules, sessions, repertoire, setlists, shows and performances (including the place and any private notes you add), and performance reviews. Unsaved review drafts stay on your device.

Other signed-in users can see your profile: username, display name, bio, avatar and instruments. Usernames can be looked up without signing in, so sign-up can check whether a name is taken. Your preferences, including Practice Studio data, can be read only by your own account.

If you use collaboration, MusicSense also stores comments and replies, collaborator records, invitations, blocks and any reports you submit.

What stays on your device

Tabs, recorder audio, and imported practice audio are stored only on your device. They are not synced or uploaded, and tabs and recordings are not included in exports.

Microphone and camera

MusicSense uses the microphone for the tuner and the recorder. The tuner analyses sound in memory on your device to find the pitch; it is not saved or uploaded. The recorder saves only the takes you record, on your device. MusicSense does not request camera access.

Crash and diagnostic data

Store builds may use Sentry to collect crash reports, error diagnostics, and a sample of performance traces. These include the app version, device and operating-system information, internal identifiers used to locate a failure, and short descriptions of recent app actions. They are designed to exclude lyrics, notes, comments, invite tokens, passwords, sign-in tokens, and exported files. Crash diagnostics are not controlled by the analytics setting.

Product analytics

When you are signed in, MusicSense records product analytics in its own database. They are on by default, linked to your user ID, and contain the event name, content-free details such as metronome settings or practice duration, and the app version and platform. They do not include song titles, lyrics, notes, comments, chord text you enter, emails, invite tokens, or exported files. Nothing is sent while you are signed out.

You can turn Product Analytics off in Settings › Data. The choice applies to everyone using the app on that device.

App updates

Store builds check Expo's update service when the app starts, sending a random installation identifier that is not linked to your account, the platform, the app's runtime version, and the release channel.

Sharing

MusicSense does not sell your data or use it for advertising or cross-app tracking. It relies on Supabase for accounts and storage, Sentry for crash diagnostics, and Expo for app updates. Your content is shared with other people only when you invite a collaborator or grant access.

Security

MusicSense uses Supabase for accounts and storage, and privileged server credentials are not shipped in the app. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we use reasonable measures to protect your data.

Children

MusicSense is not intended for children under 13. If a parent or guardian believes a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will help.

International use

Your data may be processed in countries where MusicSense's infrastructure providers operate, which may be outside your own country or region.
